•  Reading Comprehension
  • Apply decoding and blending words using the prescribed books and apply the skills to other books in their regular class.  
  • Develop fluency and accuracy skills using the prescribed books for the class. 
  • Tell the class what they read in their own words (comprehension)
  • Develop vocabulary skills using the resource below. 
  • Master the reading skills by completing the  Winter reading project. 

   

• Communication and Engagement
  • Encourage discussion and questioning during the class time which will help them to speak their mind without inhibition.
  • Share creative work from their school classroom so that the rest of the kids learn what’s going on in other schools.
  • Build awareness on what’s going on around them by talking about important events - day’s weather. 

• Two online books (parents will buy (total price ~$20 or get from other sources)
• Collins Cobuild Primary Learner’s Dictionary will be used for word building and vocabulary skills (GFL subscription) 
• One library or any other book (not prescribed) for the winter reading project
• Parents will help kids to practice their vocab words. Links will be available in the Google Classroom. 
• Zoom access with video and audio (this course is online only)
