•  Reading comprehension
• Using a prescribed nonfiction book, students will focus on reading, comprehending and mastering the subject matter
• Take notes (bullet points) while reading and use them to discuss in the class. 
• Read science and social science related articles and answer questions in the class itself (foundation for multiple choice questions at the school)
• Winter reading - book selection (share the title of the book selected) 
• Writing
  • Write a step by step book summary for this project. 
  • Write a science report based on a science experiment. Teacher will provide data for the report. 
  • Critique an article focused on social issues, using the steps taught. 
• Thematic learning 
  • Students will enhance knowledge on a theme that comprises more than subject (interdisciplinary). The “themes” help students to think beyond the subjects.
  • Learn “industries” as a theme. It’s a combination of reading, math, and ideas to add a company to an industry (a group project) 

•  One nonfiction book and one science book (not school course book) prescribed by the teacher  (parents will buy - total price ~$15 (worth the money)
• Science, socioeconomic, and environment-related articles (the teacher will provide from GFL journal subscription).
• Google Classroom (most of the assignments and exercises would be completed in the class itself).
